The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Captain Scott Hall:

Sergeant E. Richardson was patrolling the area of Highway 48 near Highway 561 in Enfield Wednesday when he observed the driver of a Camaro fail to stop at a stop sign.

Just before making a complete stop Richardson noticed the driver — Malieck Tyreick Mashaad Wright — toss a large package out the passenger window. 

Corporal R. Chin and his dog Duri responded to the scene to conduct an article search.

Duri located a large package of marijuana and during the search of the vehicle another package of marijuana was located in the rear floorboard. A total of 284.5 grams was seized.

Richardson arrested Wright, 29, of Rocky Mount, and charged him with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling with control substances, and a stop sign violation. 

Wright posted a $5,000 bond and awaits a November 30 court date.

August armed robbery

On August 30 deputies responded to the area of Freedom Street in Enfield on an armed robbery call.

Deputies learned the victim was approached by two males who brandished a firearm, stole a firearm from the victim and left the area. 

Through an investigation by Detective A. Holland and members of the Enfield Police Department, the suspects were identified as Jemorean Smith, 22, of Rocky Mount, and Patrecion Arrington, 20, of Enfield.

On Tuesday around noon members of the HCSO Criminal Investigation Division along with the assistance of the Enfield Police Department executed a search warrant at Arrington’s residence. Arrington was taken into custody and a semi-automatic handgun was seized. 

Arrington was arrested and served with a warrant for robbery with a dangerous weapon. 

He received a $5,000 secured bond and a Friday court date.

Smith surrendered at the sheriff’s office on Tuesday around 5 p.m.

He was served a warrant for robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a stolen firearm and an unrelated order for arrest. 

He received a $10,000 bond and a December 21 court date.
