A Roanoke Rapids man was charged Wednesday for possession of psychedelic mushrooms and served a warrant for failure to appear in court.

Captain Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy D. Williams responded to a business on Highway 301 in the Enfield area around 10:30 a.m. after a call that an employee was found in possession of possible narcotics.

Troy Nicholas Ferrell, 28, was found in possession of psilocybin mushrooms. It was also learned he had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.

He received a $1,000 bond for the possession of schedule I count and was jailed without the opportunity for bond for the failure to appear count.

He is scheduled to appear in court Friday and remains in custody.
