The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District will be conducting its annual unidirectional flushing exercise beginning Monday, March 18 throughout the city of Roanoke Rapids and town of Gaston.

Unidirectional flushing is a systematic and controlled flushing program used to remove sediments and old water and to help maintain chlorine residuals throughout the system. Flushing improves the overall quality of water in the distribution system and assists in the system maintenance.

This exercise may generate brief instances of discolored water and if you notice discolored water, run the cold water tap a few minutes until clear before using your washing machine, water heater, or preparing food.

Outdoor use and toilet flushing will not be affected.

If you have any questions or concerns or if the discolored water does not clear up after several minutes, please call the Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District at 252-537-9137.
