An Oklahoma man died Tuesday night in a single-vehicle crash on Wallace Fork Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Sergeant L. Bynum said according to a preliminary report by Trooper C.R. Hogg, 49-year-old Larry John Fields of Talihina, Oklahoma, was traveling east around 6:30 p.m. when he went off the roadway to the left and crossed the centerline,

The vehicle hit the embankment, went airborne and then collided with a utility pole. After striking the pole the vehicle overturned and ejected the driver, who succumbed to his injuries.

The contributing circumstances remain under investigation, Bynum said.
