Freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./ Halifax Academy) scored her career best 29 points while also grabbing 19 rebounds and recording three blocks. Williams went 11 of 18 from the field and 7 of 12 from the free throw line to get to 29.
Lynchburg came out hot in the first period and outscored R-MC 24-15. To start the second quarter, R-MC scored the first 10 points to pull within two of the Hornets. R-MC would take its first lead with 1:34 remaining in the first quarter after freshman Michal Ross (Glen Allen, Va./ Glen Allen) hit a pair of free throws to make the score 34-32. The Yellow Jackets would trail the Hornets by one point at the half.
Lynchburg would edge R-MC in the third quarter. Williams scored seven of the Yellow Jackets 12 points in the quarter.
R-MC trailed 58-55 in the fourth period with just over four minutes remaining before junior Kareema Conteh (Riverdale, Md./ Parkdale) and junior Marisha Berry (Powhatan, Va./ Powhatan) hit layups to take the lead at 59-58.
Randolph-Macon led 65-62 with 30 seconds remaining before Olivia Defrancesco made a three pointer for the Hornets and would force overtime.
In overtime, Lynchburg made the first basket before Williams and junior Amber Lee (Rockville, Va./ Patrick Henry) scored consecutive baskets.
Lynchburg would then take the lead at 75-72 with just 12 seconds remaining. Michal Ross hit a jumper with six second on the clock to pull within one point. The R-MC defense then forced its 19th turnover of the game on the inbound pass and got the ball back with just five seconds remaining.
Sophomore Kelsey Wisner (York, Pa./ Central York) inbounded the ball to Berry at the top of arch and Berry knocked down the three with just three seconds remaining to give R-MC the 77-75 victory.
R-MC shot 50% from the field in the victory.
Freshman Ashley Weaver (Mechanicsville, Va./ Atlee) made a big impact in the game scoring 13 points, making two three pointers and going 5 of 9 from the floor.
Berry and Ross also scored double-digit points, with both putting up 10 points. Randolph-Macon tallied 24 assists on 31 made baskets, Lee led the team with five while Wisner and Berry each recorded four assists.
R-MC will play two games in Crenshaw Gym next week. On Tuesday, R-MC hosts Eastern Mennonite at 7 p.m. and then on Thursday R-MC will play Gallaudet at 6 p.m.
