The state Department of Transportation has contracted Barnhill Contracting to resurface Highway 158 from Highway 48 to State Road 1432 near William R Davie.

The approximately 5 miles of work will begin Monday at the intersection of highways 158 and 48 in the westbound lane.

The project consists of milling and filling the outside lanes then resurfacing the entire width.

There will be one lane of travel open, with a pilot car escorting the vehicles through, alternating directions.

The project will take approximately six weeks to complete with good weather.

This section of road will be congested during these times. The department asks the traveling public to be patient and allow extra time for their commute if traveling through this section.

If possible, travelers may want to consider an alternate route.

If anyone has questions they can contact the DOT district office at 252-583-4230.
