A Roanoke Rapids police officer sustained minor injuries early this morning as he was investigating a weather-related wreck at the Highway 125 overpass.

Chief Chuck Hasty said Officer J. Mason was outside his vehicle investigating the collision when an approaching vehicle lost control due to the conditions.
The approaching vehicle apparently struck Mason’s patrol car and possibly the vehicle involved in the initial wreck the officer was investigating which, as a result, sent Mason over the guardrail.
Mason was treated and released.
The state Highway Patrol is investigating, Hasty said.
