RRPD roundup: Drug, fraud charges; domestic assault

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

On Tuesday at approximately 9:30 a.m., Sergeant M. Peck was working speed enforcement on Gregory Drive when he observed a vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit.  

Peck attempted to stop the driver with blue lights and siren. The driver did not stop until Old Farm Road.

The passenger fled from the vehicle and Peck called for assistance.

The driver, Willie Albert Alston Jr., 23, of Roanoke Rapids, was arrested and charged with driving while license revoked, failing to stop for blue light/siren and speeding.

The passenger, Joshua Antonio Burnell, 34, of Greensboro, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana.

Alston received a $2,000 bond and June 11 court date.

Burnell received a $5,000 bond and May 2 court date.

Lieutenant C. Burnette, Master Officer G. Morris, Captain B. Martin and officers N. Velazquez and D. Hundley assisted.

 

On Tuesday at approximately 3:15 p.m., Hundley responded to a fraud call at Walmart.

Loss prevention told Hundley Debbie Scott Shearin, 53, switched price tags on items and then proceeded to check out and get them at a lower price.

Shearin was arrested and charged with obtaining property by a false pretense.

She received a $1,000 bond and May 2 court date.

 

On Tuesday at approximately 6 p.m., Hundley responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention told Hundley Pedro Montez Bryant and Davina Tinette Austin, both 45 and both from Capron, Virginia, took items from the store.

Officers located the two in the parking lot and they were taken into custody.

Austin was found in possession of narcotics when she was arrested.

Bryant was charged with three counts each of larceny and possession of stolen goods.

He received a $2,000 bond and May 11 court date.

Austin received the same charges as Bryant and was also charged with possession of marijuana.

She received a $2,500 bond and the same court date as Bryant.

 

On Wednesday at approximately 7:30 p.m., Lieutenant J. Baggett conducted a traffic stop for a violation in the 600 block of Jackson Street.  

The driver, Melquan Tyreque Ransom, 20, of Garysburg was driving without a license and was found in possession of narcotics and paraphernalia.  

Baggett arrested and charged Ransom with possession with intent to sell/deliver schedule VI, possession of schedule VI, possession of drug paraphernalia, no operator’s license and exceeding a safe speed.

He received a $5,000 bond and May 2 court date.

Officer E. Ellington assisted.

 

This morning at approximately 1, officers responded to a domestic disturbance in the 700 block of East Littleton Road.

The accused suspect left on a vehicle.  

Officer J. DeSare and Baggett stopped the vehicle and conducted an investigative stop on Smith Church Road.  

The driver, Lamantric Fondale Joyner, 34, of Tarboro, was found in possession of narcotics and a concealed handgun.

DeSare arrested and charged Joyner with possession of cocaine, possession of schedule VI and carrying a concealed weapon.

He was also served a warrant for assault on a female.  

He was held without opportunity for bond due to the domestic nature of the case and has a May 2 court date.
