Task force roundup: Wanted person; blotter entries

The City County Drug Task Force reported the following, according to Captain A.M. Harris:

Wednesday

At approximately 9:41 a.m., Agent D.W. McKeel stopped a vehicle on Highway 158 near Airport Road for a motor vehicle violation.  

The driver was identified as Timothy Michael Walker, 19, of Highway 158, and was found in possession of marijuana.

McKeel cited Walker with a North Carolina Uniform Citation for possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce and no operator’s license.  

He received a June 18 court date.

Agent D.J. Epperson assisted.

 

At approximately 11 a.m., McKeel and Epperson went to the area of East Eleventh Street in Weldon to follow up on a drug complaint.  

Agents encountered Terrell Mason, 26, of Pleasant Hill.  

Mason ran from agents and reportedly threw away his crack cocaine.  

Mason was captured a short distance away and several hits of crack cocaine were seized.

Epperson arrested and charged Mason with possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine and resisting a public officer.  

Mason received $2,000 bond with a July 18 court date.

Thursday

Shortly before 3 p.m., McKeel stopped a moped driver traveling north on Highway 48 at Straight Road.

The operator was not wearing a helmet and was identified as Lawrence Clinton Johnson III, 23, of Roanoke Rapids.  

During the encounter Central Communications advised there were several outstanding warrants for his arrest.  

Johnson ran from agents crossing over Highway 48 and into the woods.

Several task force agents, the patrol and investigative divisions of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office arrived to assist.

Deputies were unable to locate Johnson in the area.  

McKeel has obtained warrants on Johnson for resisting a public officer, fictitious info to an officer and a moped helmet violation.

Harris said Johnson frequents the P&J, Straight Road and Airbase Road areas.

Today

At approximately 1:20 p.m., Epperson stopped a vehicle for a speeding violation on Highway 158 near Harrison Street in Roanoke Rapids.  

The driver was identified as John Butler, 43, of Roanoke Rapids.  

During the search, Epperson seized one Xanax pill.

Butler was cited with a North Carolina Uniform Citation for simple possession of schedule II controlled substance and has a July 18 court date.

 

At approximately 3 p.m., agents conducted a traffic checking station on Becker Drive near Patch Rubber Road in Weldon.  

McKeel noticed a vehicle make a fast right turn into a concrete company’s driveway.  

McKeel identified the driver as Brandon Armstrong, 31, of the 400 block of Elm Street Weldon.

Agent D.R. Radford with canine Tony were requested. During the search of the vehicle crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia were seized.

Mckeel arrested and charged Armstrong with felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a vehicle/dwelling for a controlled substance.  

Armstrong received a July 11 court date.

 

Shortly after 4 p.m., Epperson stopped a vehicle for a motor vehicle violation on Highway 158 near Redwood Street in Roanoke Rapids.  

The driver was identified as Cody Balero, 23, of Roanoke Rapids.

Epperson found Balero in possession of cocaine.  

Balero was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine and no operator’s license. Balero received a July 18 court date.

Radford and Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sergeant Matt Brown assisted.
