Roanoke Rapids police Chief Chuck Hasty Tuesday night recognized officer achievements, promotions and a new hire during city council’s meeting.

He also announced several community policing events including the upcoming National Night Out.

Personnel

Hasty announced promotions of Jamie Hady to investigator and Daniel Hundley and Ryan Cross to master officer.

Master officers help train new officers, he said.

Investigator Jeff Davis was honored for receiving his investigators certificate through Wilson Community College in May.

Obtaining the certificate required 364 hours of classroom work.

Lieutenant Jeff Baggett, Hardy and Officer Curtis Batchelor were recognized as officers of the quarter.

Hayden Marshall was introduced as a newly hired officer.

Hasty aso recognized the criminal investigation division for its work which led to arrest of Wade Carter III on numerous charges associated with sexual assaults in the city. “We are hopeful the judicial system will do what they do and put him away for a long time,” he said.

Upcoming events

Hasty also announced several upcoming events starting Friday with the Meet Me at the Barbershop community forum which will be held at 10 a.m. at Super Cut II at 1742 Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

“We just want to get out and talk to the community and get feedback,” he said. “We want to find out what we’re doing right and what we’re doing wrong and how to improve relationships.”

The police department will host a non-perishable/canned food drive to help support the Angels Closet Food Ministry.

The department will accept non-perishable food items, canned foods, diapers and baby wipes at this event.

Items may be left at Food Lion stores on Roanoke Avenue and Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

The police department will be there to collect the items on August 3 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

National Night Out will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Centre on the campus of Halifax Community College on August 7.

This will be a joint effort between the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Weldon Police Department and Enfield Police Department.

Jim Quick and Coastline will be headlining.
