Roanoke Valley crime roundup: RRPD, HCSO

Roanoke Valley law enforcement reported the following:

RRPD

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Chuck Hasty reported on Friday at approximately 4 p.m., Officer J. Shelburne conducted a traffic stop on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway for a violation.

The passenger, Trevonte Gajuan Clanton, 22, of Roanoke Rapids, had an outstanding warrant.

Clanton was arrested and charged with breaking and entering. He received a $10,000 bond and September 5 court date.

The charges stem from a breaking and entering on August 1.

The homeowner was awakened by noises outside and observed a person or persons entering their shed.

Investigators worked the leads and followed up with neighbors. They located video surveillance of the people in the area which lead to the identification of Clanton.

The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.

Investigators J. Davis, G. Williams and O. Wiltise have worked this case together.   

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office

Chief Deputy Scott Hall reported on May 9 deputies responded to an address on Gardner Drive just outside of Roanoke Rapids regarding the larceny of several items from a yard.

Investigation led by Detective Travis Clark led to warrants for Justin Nowell, 34, of Roanoke Rapids.

Nowell was arrested by the Roanoke Rapids Police Department on July 30 and charged with misdemeanor larceny and possession of stolen goods.  

He received an August 14 court date after posting $1,000 bond.
