RRPD roundup: Blotter correction; fentanyl arrest

Chief Chuck Hasty of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department today sent out a correction to a Tuesday blotter entry.

The police department erroneously reported in the roundup Kenji Mason was arrested following a Monday search warrant execution.

It should have said Kenji Garner, 36, of Roanoke Rapids, was arrested and charged.

rrspin.com has changed the name in the Tuesday report.

Meanwhile, Hasty reported the following:

On Tuesday at approximately noon, narcotics investigators J. Hardy and C. Babb conducted a traffic stop for a violation on Southgate Drive.

Devin Rashod Johnston, 20, of Roanoke Rapids, was driving on a revoked license and was in possession of narcotics and paraphernalia.  

Hardy arrested and charged Johnston with driving while license revoked, possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, possession of fentanyl, maintaining a vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He received a $10,000 bond and September 5 court date.

Hardy deployed his canine partner Storm and Master Officer G. Colson and Officer H. Marshall assisted.

 

On Tuesday at approximately 2 p.m., Lieutenant C. Burnette responded to the 1400 block of Georgia Avenue about a person caught going into a parked vehicle.  

When Burnette arrived the victim had Martavius Javon Clements, 20, of Roanoke Rapids, detained.

Burnette arrested and charged Clements for breaking/entering a motor vehicle.

He received a $1,000 bond and September 5 court date.

Sergeant M. Peck assisted.

 

On Tuesday at approximately 4:30 p.m., Officer J. DeSare located Leon Maurice Gray, 42, of Roanoke Rapids, in the 1000 block of Hamilton Street on outstanding warrants.  

Gray had warrants for two counts of habitual larceny, two counts of possession of stolen goods and larceny by removing an anti-theft device.

Gray received an $8,000 bond and September 5 court date.

The charges stem from an investigation by Investigator G.L. Williams into larcenies from Family Dollar on July 27 and 28.

Lieutenant J. Baggett assisted.

 

On Tuesday at approximately 7 p.m., Hardy and Babb were investigating a drug transaction. Paul Thomas Strickland Jr., 26, of Roanoke Rapids, was found in possession of narcotics.  Babb arrested and charged Strickland with possession of cocaine.

He received a $1,000 bond and September 5 court date.

Hardy deployed Storm in the investigation.

 

On Tuesday at approximately 8 p.m., Lieutenant P. Parks conducted a traffic stop on Roanoke Avenue near Emry Street for a violation.  

The passenger, Ericka Montia Winstead, 26, of Roanoke Rapids, was found to have several outstanding orders for arrest and was in possession of narcotics.  

Parks arrested Winstead on the orders for arrest from Nash and Edgecombe counties and cited  her for possession of marijuana.

She received a total bond of $1,615 and a September 10 court date.
