A scout show Saturday at River Falls Park in Weldon won’t just be for scouts — it will be for the public and even those seeking jobs.

The scout show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be hosted by the Lewis-Deanes District of the Boy Scouts of America.

More than 100 scouts are expected to attend and will represent scouts from across the East Carolina Council said Shawn Garner, scoutmaster of Troop 411.

“It will be open to the public,” Garner said. “Several businesses will set up to talk about their companies. It’s not only to let the scouts know what jobs are out there, but the public.”

Several troops will be at the park with registration information for boys and girls to join the scouts. “There’s a lot of camping and a lot of community service,” Garner said of some of the incentives to join. There’s also high adventure.”

Halifax Community College will have a booth at the event to let visitors know about educational opportunities.

The show will give scouts an opportunity to hike the Roanoke Canal Trail, which is listed as a Historic Scout Trail. The first 50 to hike the trail will earn a badge.

Allen Purser, who assists with Troop 238, said several companies will be displaying large equipment and there will be fire and safety expositions.

The United States Army is expected to have several exhibits as well as a recruiter.

Purser said there will also be cooking demonstrations and the event is free.
