Softball teams receive recognition from council

Roanoke Rapids City Council this evening recognized the accomplishments of four girls softball teams.

Mayor Emery Doughtie not only read the teams letters congratulating them on their accomplishments, but had Councilman Ernest Bobbitt by his side to give them city pins.

After receiving the pins they walked a gauntlet of handshakes and highfives from council members.

“We want you to be proud of your community and what you’ve done for it as well as your coaches and the adults,” the mayor said.

The teams, players and coaches are as follows:

Roanoke Valley 8U — district and state champions

Lilly Sweeley; Skylar Moore; Cadence Ball; Sarah Williams; Reagan D’Arco; Jaden Odom; Emersyn Boerner; Madalyn Bell; Sofie Wade; Makayla Chambers; Zoey Thomas and Kamryn Johnson.

Coaches: Darrin Whitley; Larry Boerner; Howard Chambers and Kevin Moore.

Roanoke Valley 10U — placed second in district and third at state

Kyla Odom; Shaelyn Johnson; Madison Jones; Lydia Carroll; Meagan Davis; Juleigh Hall; Maecy Garriss; Emilee Campbell; Makenna Whitley; Payton Odom; Maddie Patrick; Emily Clay and Shandi Byrum.

Coaches: James Odom; Neal Campbell; Chuck Oliver and Monica Davis

Roanoke Valley 12U — Placed second in district and fifth at state
