Council rejects Crestview rezoning request

The owner of Crestview Cemetery said she would have to figure out her next steps after Roanoke Rapids City Council struck down a motion which would have lead to the rezoning of land to possibly pave the way for an expansion.

The prospective buyers of the Roanoke Rapids Theater are expected to close on the venue July 23, city council was told this evening.

Roanoke Rapids City Council and department heads honored two retirees with more than 60 years between them Tuesday night.

City's BARC awards five scholarships

The city’s Benevolent Awards and Recognition Committee at this evening’s city council meeting presented scholarships of $500 each to the five children of employees to further their educations.

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department could get funding to form a proactive community engagement team focusing on drugs and gangs if the city’s proposed 2018-19 fiscal year budget passes.

A request for City Manager Joseph Scherer to look into providing a 3 percent cost of living increase for employees could not only alter the city’s proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year but has changed the date of the public hearing for the draft financial plan.
