Council approves Chaloner pool repairs

The city will seek an installment financing package to fund repairs to the Chaloner Recreation Center pool after council this evening agreed on the matter by a 3-2 vote.

Public works lauded for Matthew efforts

The Roanoke Rapids Public Works Department was lauded for its efforts during and after Hurricane Matthew last week.

There are no plans to close Chaloner Recreation Center, Roanoke Rapids City Manager Joseph Scherer said following this evening’s city council meeting.

Roanoke Rapids City Council this evening recognized the retirement of longtime city Clerk Lisa Vincent.

City Manager Joseph Scherer briefed council this evening on the Alabama pipeline spill and its implications on Roanoke Rapids. He also briefed the panel on road projects the city sees as a high priority.

The Roanoke Rapids Fire Department and the Main Street program told council this evening both departments received significant grant funds, which between the two funding awards total close to $200,000.
