Building permit issued for senior apartment complex

The city has issued a building permit for a senior apartment complex which will be located at Becker Drive and Hunting Ridge Road.

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department served a search warrant at Lily Spa this afternoon, an establishment which in the past has been referred to as a reputed brothel.

The Roanoke Rapids Planning and Development Department has received some comments back from a site plan review on plans submitted for a proposed Dollar General at Roanoke Avenue and Eighth Street.

Council honors longtime employees

Roanoke Rapids City Council and department heads honored two retirees with more than 60 years between them Tuesday night.

Despite drawing criticism from residents and some businesses in the immediate area, a Dollar General store proposed for the corner of Roanoke Avenue and Eighth Street does not have to gain a recommendation for approval from the planning board or an OK from city council to be built.

Council gets look at wayfinding prototype

Roanoke Rapids City Council got its first look at a prototype wayfinding sign which will provide uniformed signage to points of interest throughout the city.

Business owners in the Forest Hills Shopping Center are closer to a major parking lot repair and repaving project now that work is expected to be completed on an underground 2-inch wastewater drainage line from a stand alone ice vending machine located there.

A four-store shopping center which includes Jersey MIke’s Subs and Great Clips is planned for a vacant parcel of land located between the Halifax County Visitors Center and former Lone Star Steakhouse and Saloon on Premier Boulevard.
