Roanoke Rapids Graded School District trustees this evening took action on two items related to school safety.

Two elementary schools in Halifax County received school supplies today and two more will get items soon following a donation drive by the sheriff’s office.

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Justine Adams of Norwich, NY, died peacefully, in her sleep, Thursday morning, August 9th. She was 94.

Chris Davis was sworn in as Weldon’s new police chief this evening, taking over the position left vacant by the departure of James Avens.

Halifax County Manager Tony Brown announced today the appointment of the new Human Resources Management Director Renee Perry.

Roanoke Valley law enforcement reported the following:

Roanoke Valley Surgical Associates announced general surgeon, Dr. Michael Wegener, has joined the practice.

Historic Halifax State Historic Site is offering two new guided tours which include access to the site’s historic structures while exploring the lives of the town’s early citizens.  

Two women were charged following the execution of a search warrant at Lily Spa on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway Thursday.
