The Halifax County Health Department today reported it is aware of 789 positive cases of the novel coronavirus. There remain nine related deaths.
In its report today the health department said on Mondays through Fridays it will report total positive cases, positive cases by age, ethnicity and gender as well as the total number of COVID-19 related deaths.
The Wednesday weekly report will include: COVID-19 positives, COVID-19 related deaths, the number of people presumed to be recovered, cases by date of earliest illness identification by race/ethnicity and percent positive.

The report for this afternoon is as of today and includes the 789 positives since testing began and the nine deaths. Eight of the deaths were within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code and one was within the Weldon area ZIP code. There were 767 positive cases reported in Wednesday’s update.
The health department continues to encourage residents to practice the three Ws — handwashing, waiting six feet apart and wearing a facial covering.
Northampton County
The health department reported Wednesday there were 359 total positive cases. There have been 318 recoveries and 17 deaths.
