No further charges will be filed against a mother who earlier this month was charged with concealment of her 3-month-old’s death, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

The decision comes after an autopsy report showed the medical examiner did not locate any injuries or trauma to the child.

Chief Bobby Martin said the autopsy did not discuss the actual cause of the child’s death but did determine the mother had nothing to do with the death.

Martin declined to comment on what prompted the concealment of the child, who was found in a suitcase placed in the rear of a closet at a residence in the 100 block of Franklin Street on February 8. “It’s a sad story, a sad case when a child doesn’t have a chance to live out their life,” Martin said. “We have our theories but at this time I’d rather not comment.”

The child’s mother, Synkel Davis, has a Thursday district court date on the concealment count. She has a March 10 court date for misdemeanor larceny and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods as well as a March 13 court date for fictitious title, failing to secure a passenger under 16 and failing to carry a valid driver's license.
