Under 15 baseball all-stars finish 4th in ENC State tourney

The Roanoke Rapids Youth Baseball Association Under 15 All-Stars games three, four and five 2017 ENC Babe Ruth State Baseball Tournament recap.

The Roanoke Rapids Youth Baseball Association Under 15 All-Stars suffered their first loss in game three of the 2017 North Carolina State Babe Ruth Tournament at Guy Smith Stadium in Greenville Sunday.

It was a close game but the combination of multiple defensive plays and strong pitching from Bennett Liverman and Colin Long were not enough to overcome the defensive battle in the loss to Pitt County 2-1.

Liverman pitched five innings facing 21 batters with 3 strikeouts giving up 3 hits and 2 runs with 3 walks.  Long came in to relieve Liverman in the 6th inning facing 3 batters giving up one hit.

Offensive leaders were Colin Long with 2 Singles and one run, Bennett Liverman with a Single and 1 RBI, Grayson Hargrave with 2 Singles, Jacob Deberry with a Single and Trevor Harrison with a Single.

With the combination of experience, determination and effort the team can still advance to the Championship Game on Tuesday.

The Roanoke Rapids U15 All-Stars then faced Kinston-Lenoir Monday in game four.

 
 
 

The Roanoke Rapids Youth Baseball Association Under 15 All-Stars won their fourth game of the 2017 North Carolina State Babe Ruth Tournament at Guy Smith Stadium in Greenville on Monday morning keeping the team in the hunt for the Championship game.

A strong defense and pitching from Chris Hunter and Ethan Vincent in combination with timely hits by the offense led the team to a 6-4 win over Kinston-Lenoir.

Offensive leaders for the Roanoke Rapids All-Stars were Jacob Deberry with two Doubles, two runs and one RBI, Ethan Dixon with a Double, a Single, one run and one RBI, Colin Long with a Double, one run and one RBI, Ethan Vincent with two Singles and one run, Trevor Harrison with a Double and one run, Grayson Hargrave with a Double, Rick Lee with a double, Chris Hunter with a Single.

 
 
 

The Roanoke Rapids U15 All-Stars advanced to game five against Greenville Monday afternoon in a must win game.  Roanoke Rapids had the opportunity to take control early in the game but the offense stalled leaving five runners stranded and the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 2nd.  Greenville had several big hits in the 3rd and 4th innings allowing them to pull away with the lead 8-2 in the bottom of the 4th. 

Roanoke Rapids was down 11-2 in the top of the 7th but they continued to work hard and never gave up.  The defense continued putting the ball in play scoring two more runs but the sharp offense of Greenville prevailed beating Roanoke Rapids 11-4.

Offensive leaders for the Roanoke Rapids All-Stars were Ethan Dixon with two Singles and two runs, Jacob Deberry with two Singles, one run and one RBI, TJ High with a Single and one run, Trevor Harrison with a Single and one RBI, Rick Lee with two Singles, Grayson Hargrave with a Single, Ethan Vincent with a Single.

The Roanoke Rapids U15 All-Stars finished fourth in the ten team double elimination tournament.
