Women face charges after task force stop

Two Roanoke Rapids women were arrested Tuesday afternoon on various drug related counts following a traffic stop in the West Tenth area.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is currently working with other law enforcement agencies and the judicial system to bring Tyquan Powell back to Halifax County to face charges in the January 26 murder of Jimmy Daniels.

Whitaker gets 120 months following heroin plea

Gerald Whitaker will spend 120 months in prison after Chief United States District Judge James C. Dever III today sentenced the Scotland Neck man for distribution of heroin in federal court in Raleigh.

Tyquan Powell, wanted in the murder of a potential state's witness last month, was captured in Charlotte this morning, a TV station there reports.
