A Roanoke Rapids man was charged with statutory rape of a child this morning after Halifax County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence on Driftwood Lane in a response to a missing 15-year-old.
The juvenile had been reported missing from the city limits of Roanoke Rapids around 4 this morning, Captain Scott Hall said.
The juvenile was located at the Driftwood Lane residence and the Roanoke Rapids Police Department initially charged John Patrick Skeens II, 20, with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Through further investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office criminal investigations division, Detective Sergeant A.C. Wood obtained a warrant for the statutory rape count.
Skeens was jailed without the opportunity for bond and has a Wednesday district court appearance.
“We would like to thank the Roanoke Rapids Police Department for their assistance in the investigation,” Sheriff Tyree Davis said.
