White Chevrolet recently presented $2,000 through Chevrolet’s Back to School program to Halifax Academy Patrons for its Playground of Possibilities fund drive, an effort to raise money to replace playground equipment that is at least 30-years-old.

“We are thankful for the opportunity to add to the fundraiser,” said Courtney Strickland, president of HA Patrons.

Joey White of White Motors presented the check to HA students Blake Strickland, Colton Harris, Peyton Harris, Emerson Cooke, Easton Short and Everly Short.

He said Back to School is in its second year and the company has been participating in Chevy’s sports program for at least the last 14 years.

The dealership partnered with the academy during its annual Viking Fest celebration. The dealership is allowed to bring a few Chevrolet vehicles to the school and the PTA arranges for members and teachers to test drive and view them. Each test drive earns the school a monetary amount with a cap of $500 and $1,500 for participating for a total of $2,000.

“We are grateful for the overwhelming support we have received so far,” said Kimberly Graybeal of Halifax Academy. “We are making significant strides toward reaching our fundraising goal. The excitement and commitment from our school community has truly been heartwarming.”

In her fundraising letter Strickland said, “Our current playground equipment has served us well over the years, but it's time for an upgrade that aligns with our vision for providing the best possible educational experience. A new playground will not only provide a safe and enjoyable space for our students to engage in physical activities but will also stimulate their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.”

The goal is to raise $60,000 to cover the costs of purchasing and installing modern and inclusive playground equipment that will cater to the diverse needs and interests of students. “We believe that a well-rounded education includes both academic rigor and opportunities for physical growth and creativity,” she said.
