A champion for renewable solutions will share her professional insights in an overview of clean energy opportunities and advancing renewable investments within it, especially those that spotlight economic and environmental challenges unique to rural communities.

The Center for Energy Education will host a webinar Monday, May 20, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.n featuring Laura Combs, director of energy equity at Eagle Solar & Light, to inform communities about the range of available federal funds through the Inflation Reduction Act and other recent legislation for renewable energy investments into healthy, innovative solutions.

Combs, who served as a panelist at C4EE’s Thriving Communities Convening — Empowering Northeastern North Carolina earlier this spring, will discuss the funding priorities outlined in the IRA and how the program’s initiatives can help drive dollars into greenhouse gas-reducing projects in low-income and marginalized communities.

She will also advise of approaches for organizations to successfully seek and secure funds, including strategies to stretch the funding such as tax credits for rooftop solar purchases and monetizing the credits as rebates.

“This discussion can help economically distressed counties across the state that are oftentimes overlooked effectively navigate these specialized resources for clean energy technologies, energy efficiencies and green energy jobs,” said Mozine Lowe, executive director of C4EE. “This knowledge helps our low-wealth communities proactively align and prioritize infrastructure projects related to wellness, broadband, weatherization, energy costs, and capacity demands.”

The webinar is free and open to the public.

The discussion will include an opportunity to ask questions and engage with Combs after the presentation.
