Charles Lonchar passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

He was born in the Serbian Port of Yugoslavia to a Serbian mother, Bertha Lonchar and to an American-Serbian father, Michael Lonchar. 

Charles came to the United States in1950 with his mother to join his father, who had served in WWII under General Patton. 

He was on the front lines of battle for 15 months without relief. The family lived in Weirton, West Virginia where his father worked as a brick layer for the steel mill.

Charles entered elementary school and learned the language quickly. After graduating from high school, he attended West Virginia University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, followed by a Master's Degree in Hospital Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University (MVC). Charles worked 42 years as a Hospital Administrator at various hospitals managed by Hospital Corp of America.

In 1962, Charles met his wife, Betty Jones at Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Virginia. They have been married for 58 years. Charles retired in 2003 and he and Betty moved to Jackson, NC to be close to family.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jones Lonchar and their two sons, Michael Lonchar and Mark Lonchar and his wife, Heidi; two grandsons, Lucus Lonchar and Jacob Lonchar.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at the Jackson Cemetery in Jackson with Rev. Larry Godwin officiating.

The family will visit with friends after the service at the cemetery.

 Arrangements are being handled by Askew Funeral Services Jackson-Chapel.
