Mr. Bobby Burton passed away peacefully on the morning of April 1, 2024 at ECU North Hospital.

Bobby was the son of the late Jimmie A. Burton & Eula Barrow Burton. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James A. Burton and sisters, Mary B. Nowell and Kathleen “Bootsie” Stalls.

Bobby worked in the planning department at J.P. Stevens/West Point and retired after many years. He was also the long-time choir director of Chockoyotte Baptist Church and Maranatha Baptist Church. 

Bobby loved music, dancing, and the beach. He enjoyed going to Oscar’s to get his coffee and bacon for breakfast. He was a big NC State Wolfpack fan. He loved his family and cared for his sisters before their passing.

He is survived by his nieces, Betty “Bet” Bridgers, Nancy Joyner (Dennis), Jonnie Miles, Rhonda Turner (Punk), all of Roanoke Rapids, and Gilda Fowler (Timmy) of Red Oak; his nephews, Robbie Nowell (Tammy) of Roanoke Rapids and Alton Rancourt of Florida. Also left to cherish his memory are a host of great nieces and nephews as well as many great-great nieces and nephews and special care giver, Ms. Betty Frazier.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Services will be held Thursday, April 4. 2024 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services with Daniel West, Minister & Rev. Dennis R. Joyner officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

Flowers are welcome or memorial donations made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
