Pleas taken in Peterson, Pierce murders

Co-defendants in the Brandon Peterson murder case took pleas recently, the Halifax County Clerk of Courts Office confirmed.

Kevin Baxton, Adrianne Daniels and Daniel St. Aime were associates of Herman Lee “Smurf” Edwards, who was initially charged in the case, but had his charges dismissed.

Evidence was presented showing Edwards, who took a plea in the murder of Lorenzo Tann, was not present when Peterson was murdered on September 18, 2011.

Peterson was killed three days before Tann.

In court, Baxton pled to second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous. He received a sentence of 165 to 207 months.

Daniels pled to accessory after the fact of armed robbery and was sentenced to supervised probation.

St. Aime pled to conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. His sentencing was continued until November 2.

Meanwhile, defendants in the May 21, 2014, murder of Alvin Pierce Jr. have also taken pleas.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said investigation revealed robbery was a motive and there was also an indication the suspects knew the victim had money.

Quantonio Rogers pled to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 192 to 243 months in prison.

Rahakeem Lashley pled to accessory after the fact to robbery with a dangerous weapon and was sentenced to 13 to 25 months in prison.

Artemus Hardy Jr. pled to conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and was sentenced to 17 to 33 months in prison.
