The checking station was held at an undisclosed location in the county, which Radford declined to divulge.
The arrest of Alek Wall, 24, of Bloomington, Illinois, occurred as he was passing through the area as the checking station, which over the course of two days lasted six hours, was being held, Radford said.
The odor of marijuana was detected in his vehicle and he handed over the pot. A search of the vehicle yielded the other drugs and approximately $6,500 in cash.
Wall was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver LSD, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for controlled substances, possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, felony possession of cocaine, and no operator’s license.
Wall received a $75,000 secured bond and a November 25 court date.
In another matter stemming from the operation, Hope Garza, 21, of Jacksonville, was cited for possession of one-half ounce or less of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while license revoked.
During the duration of the traffic checking station agents issued the following citations:
Two for no operator’s license
Three for not having proper vehicle insurance
Three for driving while license revoked
One for expired registration
One for a child restraint violation
One for displaying a revoked registration
Along with Radford, task force agents D.W. McKeel, C.L. Dixon, D.J. Hundley, C.A. Parker, Captain A.M. Harris, Lieutenant H.G. Phillips and his dog Josh participated in the operation. “The City County Drug Task Force would like to thank the North Carolina Department of Transportation and Halifax County E-911 Emergency Communications for assistance in this operation,” Radford said in a statement.
