Sledge noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and initially arrested Long after a user amount of marijuana was found in his possession.
A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded 150 grams of marijuana; $1,000 in cash and a firearm.
A magistrate found probable cause to charge Long with maintaining a vehicle to store a controlled substance; possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana; felony possession of marijuana; possession of a firearm by a felon and a citation for driving left of center.
Long has a November 19 court date.
Sheriff Jack Smith in the statement commended Sledge “for his diligence and hard work that he provides for the citizens of Northampton County. Deputy Sledge is an asset to this office.”
Smith also acknowledged the assistance of the Garysburg Police Department.
