Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has selected Roanoke Rapids Graded School District teacher Heather Karns to participate in the HMH Digital Teacher Leader Program.

Karns teaches fourth grade at Belmont Elementary.

HMH is forming a leadership team of teachers from across North Carolina to recognize and empower innovative educators who are using digital tools and content to transform the learning environment. The goal of the program is to impact positive change in North Carolina classrooms as the state transitions to a digital learning environment.

The Digital Teacher Leaders Program will provide opportunities for the state’s top educators to pilot new digital content, collaborate with other digital leaders at special meetings and events, and contribute to the development of future digital offerings from HMH.

After reviewing many applications within the state of North Carolina, HMH believes Karns embodies the characteristics of an innovative educator, and has the experience, passion, and dedication necessary to positively impact digital learning in the district.

HMH Digital Teacher Leaders get hands-on experience with HMH's digital products and programs, learn about innovative instructional strategies, and receive resources to share with colleagues. Throughout the program, participants will have numerous opportunities to network with each other and other leaders in digital learning and be given a variety of platforms to share what they learn and their successes with educators in their local regions and beyond.

Inclusion into this program comes with an array of opportunities for professional development, access to digital products and programs, and the opportunity to network with other North Carolina Digital Teacher Leaders.

HMH has a series of events planned which will help provide participants with the development and platform for being successful in their pursuits to transform digital learning in their classrooms and beyond.
