Roanoke Rapids police are investigating two separate shootings which occurred Friday night.

There was no further information available than what Chief Chuck Hasty released in a statement this morning.

Both shootings were reported by emergency room staff at Halifax Regional Medical Center, one at 10 p.m. and the other at 11 p.m.

In the 10 p.m. matter, officers spoke with a victim who told investigating officers he was walking downtown when he was approached by suspects who knocked him to the ground and attempted to rob him. The victim was shot in the lower body as he ran away.

The victim would not provide further information to officers.

In the 11 p.m. matter, the victim told officers he was shot near Prince Street after dropping some passengers off at a residence.

While sitting in the vehicle a person in a hooded jacket or sweatshirt opened the vehicle door and demanded money.

The victim sped off and the person wearing the hooded jacket fired at the vehicle, striking the victim.

The victim sought treatment at the hospital and was transported to another medical facility.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Roanoke Rapids Police Department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers 252-583-4444.
