Speeding stop nets multiple pills and cocaine

A speeding violation Wednesday afternoon resulted in the discovery of pills, marijuana and cocaine as well as the arrest of a Roanoke Rapids man.

The initial stop occurred around 2 p.m. as Agent D. McKeel of the City County Drug Task Force patrolled in the area of the 2000 block of West Tenth Street, the agent said in a statement.

McKeel identified Kanesha Kiera Boone, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, as the driver. He confirmed she is the girlfriend of Raymond Arbray Mills, 26, who was arrested on the drug violations.

A search of the vehicle with assistance from Halifax County Sheriff's Office Deputy S. Coates and task force Agent D. Hundley yielded a .40-caliber handgun, marijuana, 259 Oxycodone pills, 21 Oxymorphone pills, a Xanax pill, 12.1 grams of cocaine and currency.

Task force Captain A.M. Harris said the cocaine was wrapped for sale in more than 40 individual bags.

Mills faces charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed gun, possess marijuana up to one-half ounce, five counts of possession with intent to sale and deliver schedule II, simple possession of schedule IV, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and felony possession of cocaine.

Mills received a $12,000 secured bond and February 24 court date.

Boone received a written warning for driving at a speed that could constitute a hazard.
