Evidence of possible dog-fighting was found this morning during a City County Drug Task Force raid in Weldon.

Captain A.M. Harris said two pit bulls, which were taken from the Sycamore Street scene in Weldon, had large lacerations to their bodies and their ribs were showing.

Harris said that part of the investigation continues. He said other dogs not in distress were left at the residence.

In a statement, Agent D.R. Radford said the task force executed a search warrant at the residence shortly after 8:30, the Halifax County Sheriff's Office Hazardous Entry and Arrest Team assisting.

Radford said the search warrant, in which Kashara Lynch, 19, was served, was based on a week-long investigation following citizen complaints in the area and his own further probe into the matter.

User amounts of marijuana and cocaine were seized as well as paraphernalia including a glass marijuana smoking pipe, plastic bags, a digital scale, and razor blades.

Radford noted in his statement the two dogs showed signs of dogfighting and neglect.

Radford arrested and charged Lynch with two counts of felony cruelty to animals, felony possession of cocaine, felony maintaining a dwelling place for a controlled substance, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia, and simple possession of marijuana.

He received a $2,500 secured bond and January 27 court date.
