There will be only one contested race for Halifax County Board of Commissioners in the March 15 primary.

Today was the last day of filing.

Although there is only contested race for commissioners — challenger Terry Buffaloe squaring off against incumbent Rachel Hux ß— there is a full field in the Halifax County Board of Education and Weldon City Schools races. The Weldon City Schools race will be held during the November 8 election.

Incumbent commissioners Carolyn Johnson and Marcelle Smith are running unopposed.

In the county school board race, incumbent Debbie Hardy did not-refile. Incumbents Charles Hedgepeth, Carolyn Hawkins and Donna Hunter filed earlier during the period.

Challengers are James Arthur Davis of Scotland Neck; former board member Tyus Few of Roanoke Rapids; Chester Williams of Enfield; Shawn T. Mitchell Sr. of Enfield and Patricia High of Roanoke Rapids.

In the Weldon City Schools race all three incumbents whose terms expire in 2016 filed — Barbara, Balmer, Hugh Credle and Alberta Greene.

They will face challenges from former board member Edith Jenkins as well as Regina Brooks and O.D. Sykes, who previously ran an unsuccessful campaign for county commissioner last year.
