Agent D.J. Hundley said in a statement he and Agent C.L. Dixon were on patrol when they observed a man later identified as Vernon Jenkins Jr., 33, of Roanoke Rapids, walking in the travel lane. They stopped to talk with him at West Third and Monroe streets.

After giving a false name, Hundley learned his true identity and arrested Jenkins on an outstanding warrant and resisting a public officer.

Hundley located a small amount of MDMA on Jenkins and charged him with felony possession of schedule I.

Jenkins has a February 24 court date.
