The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Monday January 25, 2016

At approximately 11p.m., Sergeant Daniel Jenkins, Master Officer Roy Ball and Officer Jamie Hardy investigated a disturbance call in the 900 block of Vance Street.

They located a victim who was assaulted with a knife and transported by EMS for treatment.

Hardy arrested and charged Devonte Terrell Hudson with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and served an outstanding order for arrest from Northampton County.

Hudson received a $7,000 bond and a March 16 court date.

Tuesday January 26, 2016

At approximately 10:20 p.m., Officer Dale Strickland arrested Anthony Marquett Burt, 27, of Roanoke Rapids, on outstanding warrants for larceny and possession of stolen goods.

These charges stem from an investigation by Investigator G.L. Williams on January 20 where the victim reported a purse was left on the counter after making a purchase. When the victim returned the pocketbook had items missing from it.

Burt received a $1,000 bond and a February 17 court date.

Lieutenant Jeff Baggett assisted.

Wednesday January 27, 2016

At approximately 5 p.m., Officer Patrick Smith responded to a larceny call at JustSave.

Store staff saw Sasha Simmons, 29, of Roanoke Rapids, leaving the store and Smith conducted a traffic stop on Smith Church Road.

Simmons, who was cited for larceny and possession of stolen goods, was released until her February 12 court date.

Thursday January 28, 2016

At approximately 2:20 p.m., Smith responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Cynthia Powers Deberry, 41, of Roanoke Rapids, took items without paying.

Deberry, who received a $500 bond and February 19 court date, was charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods.
