Architects Ed Gordon and Drew Wilgus from Smith Sinnett presented their overall plan for construction of the new Manning Elementary School this evening.

Roanoke Rapids Graded School District spokesman Les Atkins said in a statement plans call for a construction zone to be placed around the school this summer.

Manning Principal Mike Ferguson said, “The biggest thing I want to communicate to parents will be the change in the flow of traffic during drop off and pick up. Over the next few months, we’ll have parent meetings to explain that.”

Atkins said plans call for students and staff to move in the new school in December of 2017. The project will be completely finished over the summer of 2018 following demolition of the existing Manning Elementary School.

The proposed timeline for the project is as follows:

Out for bid — March 7

Bid opening -— April 7

Award date — April 26

Local Government Commission financing final approval — May 2

Contractor mobilized — July 1
