A social media post alerted the police department to the actions of Jenkins, who told the person to call the locksmith. “The officer (voluntarily) paid for them to have a locksmith come get their keys,” read the post. “He didn't require anything, he just did it out of a kind heart.”
The post continues, “Thank you officer Jenkins for doing the good deed. I'm sure it made their night. I wish I knew your first name so I could tag you in this. Point is, not all cops are bad. They are human just like us.”
Jenkins, who has worked in law enforcement for 21 years, was working an off-duty assignment when he learned the keys were locked in the vehicle.
Hasty cited Jenkins for performance above and beyond the call of duty.
