Assistant Halifax County Manager Erris Dunston has submitted her resignation to take a position within the city of Wilmington, County Manager Tony Brown confirmed.

Dunston, who began her duties with the county in May of 2014, “made a lot of changes” despite her short time in Halifax, Brown said. “She addressed a lot of issues, she addressed a lot of capital needs.”

Brown said Dunston helped expedite repairs of the county courthouse in the wake of a drainage system problem in November which caused significant damage to the superior courtroom as well as repairs to the elevator at the courthouse.

Brown said her resignation is effective April 30.

The county manager said he is still evaluating staffing, including decisions to delay hiring another assistant manager or rearranging staff.
