Task force Captain A.M. Harris said in a statement the latest charges against Antonio Simmons, 34, stem from two undercover buys arranged by Agent D.W. McKeel — one at his residence on Carolina Rest Home Road and the other at a convenience store on Highway 48.
The warrants obtained by McKeel were for two counts each of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, sell cocaine and deliver cocaine.
Agents located Simmons Wednesday in the Music City area of Highway 48, which is officially called Heritage Lane.
Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said this afternoon the Music City reference goes back to the days before E-911 when the area in which Simmons was arrested was known as Music City Trailer Court.
Simmons was processed and received a $10,000 bond with a September 28 court date for the Fireball warrants..
He has a July 18 superior court date on the November trafficking case as well as a July 13 district court date on other charges.
During the November search, 10 individually-wrapped bags of cocaine and approximately 4.1 grams of heroin packaged for sale were seized along with cash.
Operation Fireball was an undercover endeavor lasting several months which specifically targeted reputed street-level dealers in Roanoke Rapids, Weldon and surrounding areas of the county.
Other arrests are pending, Harris said in a statement.
