A checking station in the Bellamy Lake area Wednesday led to the seizure of 18 bindles of heroin as well as other drugs, the City County Drug Task Force reports.

A Rocky Mount man was arrested for possession of the heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana, one and a half Oxycodone pills and paraphernalia, Captain A.M. Harris said in a statement.

Harris and Agent D.R. Radford were checking licenses and registrations when shortly after 1:15 p.m. they encountered Justin Dustin Wallace, 38.

Harris said in the statement he could smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Harris removed Wallace from the vehicle for a search and the man reportedly began to resist by pulling away and reaching for something in a back pocket. As he attempted to flee he was taken to the ground and reportedly began attempting to get rid of items.
Agents requested assistance and several Halifax County Sheriff’s Office deputies and North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers arrived to assist.
The other occupant of the vehicle was released.
Harris arrested and charged Wallace with possession with the intent to sell and deliver heroin, felony possession of heroin, felony possession of cocaine, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce, simple possession of schedule II controlled substance and resisting a public officer.
Wallace was transported to the sheriff’s office where he was processed and received a $15,000 bond with a February 15 court date.
Wallace was evaluated by Halifax County EMS and refused to be transported to a local medical facility.
