Man wanted in Tuesday stabbing arrested

A man wanted in an early Tuesday morning stabbing was arrested by Roanoke Rapids police later that day on warrants filed by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Chuck Hasty confirmed he, Captain Bobby Martin, Captain Andy Bryant and Deputy Chief Andy Jackson arrested Steven Wright at his residence later that morning.
Hasty said Wright, 20, was taken into custody without trouble.
Wright was wanted in a stabbing which occurred around 1:45 a.m. on Bullington Road in the Roanoke Rapids area.
Detective B.C. Griffin of the sheriff’s office said this morning the victim in the case reported the stabbing “was an out of the blue attack.”
Wright and the victim were acquaintances. Griffin said.
Responding deputies found the victim was stabbed in the face with what Griffin described as a hunting-style knife. The victim was listed in stable condition.
Wright was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
He has a March 15 court date, according to state records.
