Captain Bobby Martin of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department declined to immediately name the person in custody and would not release the name of the victim.
Martin said the shooting was the result of an argument between two men which led to a fistfight and the alleged suspect pulling out a gun and shooting the victim in the lower extremities.
The injuries sustained by the victim are not believed to be life-threatening, Martin said. The victim was being treated.
The shooting occurred around 2:30 at the front of the store on West Tenth Street.
Martin did not know what the argument was about.
