John William Riddle Jr.

John William Riddle, Jr. of Weldon, NC, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017.

He was the son of the late John William Riddle, Sr. and Ina Stephenson Riddle. John was also preceded in death by his sister, Ann Smith.

John served his country in the United States Air Force and was a World War Two Veteran.

John retired from Coca-Cola.  He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Masonic Royal White Hart Lodge No. 2 and received the Diamond Jubilee Certificate as a Master Mason for 60 years of service. He was also a lay speaker at Weldon United Methodist Church as well as a Sunday School Teacher, and a Superintendent.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 138 and also loved woodworking. John was recognized as an outstanding citizen from the town of Weldon and loved his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife of 70 years, Janie Dickens Riddle, his daughters, LynCochrane and her husband, Dan of Raleigh, NC, Dee Copeland and her husband, Lee of Weldon, NC; his son, John William Riddle, III and his wife Vickie of Enfield, NC; his sisters, Barbara Furr and her husband, Curt of Corrales, NM, Peggy Swanger of Rio Rancho, NM; his brother, Dixon Riddle and his wife Margaret of Weldon, NC; six Grandchildren, Barbara Neufeld, Chad Schutte, Wes Riddle, Josh Kane, Renee Yongue, Michele Cochrane; six great-grandchildren, Ivy Neufeld, Charlie Neufeld, Lainie Neufeld, Chloe Schutte, Harrison Yongue and Hampton Yongue.

Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of Askew Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Sue Owens officiating.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. until service time also at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services of Roanoke Rapids, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of John to New Hope United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 2117, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
