Kindness still exists

Everything we see in the news this day and time is almost so negative — people killing people, robbing people, stealing identities, fighting, drugs and any other crime you can imagine. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you and show that kindness stills exists in our community today.

My mom was in a car accident on May 9, 2013. Her car was totaled. There were county workers present — Ricky Dorer, John Mallory, Scott Green and Eddie Ruble — during her accident and they were there helping her and getting her medical attention without hesitation.

They called 911 and cut her seatbelt off her.

They were there with her until help arrived. When I heard about the accident I thought it was a multi-car crash but then I saw her car was flipped upside down in the road on its hood and my mom was nowhere in site.

I was scared and asking where my mom was and the highway patrol trooper arrived the same time I did.

The guys that worked for the county called me over and talked with me about the incident but never stated their part in helping her.

They helped to calm me down and let me know me know my mom was OK and already at the hospital.

These men didn't have to get involved other than calling 911 but they did.

Thank you for the support I needed when I arrived on the scene and for being my mom’s guardian angels. You guys are the best. I'd also like to thank Gwen Matthews for her kindness and support.

She is one of the best women I know and another thank you to Trooper Bo Forsht for being so kind to my mom and me by coming to the hospital to make sure she was OK.

Bad things happen everywhere but from where I stand good comes out of it and this community comes together time after time no matter good or bad.

I'm proud to be a Halifax County citizen.

We all really are a family when it counts the most.
