The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office today announced the promotion of three employees.

Chief Deputy Wes Tripp said in a press release Chris Scott, of Roanoke Rapids, has been promoted to investigator.

Investigator Scott began his career with the sheriff’s office in 2003 as a detention officer. In 2005 Scott was sworn as a deputy sheriff.

Rich Somogyi, of Roanoke Rapids, has been promoted to lieutenant of investigations.

In 1984, Lieutenant Somogyi began his career with the San Diego Police Department and also worked with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

In 2007 he started with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office as an investigator and has also held the position of narcotics officer.

Scott Hall, of Roanoke Rapids, has been promoted to captain of investigations and narcotics.

In 1996, Hall began his career with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

In 2003 he came to work at the sheriff’s office and has held the positions of deputy, investigator, uniformed lieutenant and lieutenant of narcotics and lieutenant of investigations.

“Each of these men have a proven dedicated record of law enforcement,” Tripp said in the press release. “These promotions are a result of the recent retirement of Jail Administrator Jesse Harvey and the promotion of Major Jay Burch to his position.”
