Tyree Davis, one of the candidates for appointment to fill the unexpired term of Jeff Frazier, announced his intention in a statement this evening to file for sheriff of Halifax County.

“The appointment process to fill the unexpired term of retired Sheriff Jeff Frazier is now over, and recent interactions with those involved has led to a deepened vigor for change in the leadership philosophy within the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office,” he said. “I concur with a lot of the citizens of Halifax County that they deserve more from their elected sheriff, and as of today I’m setting out to give them what I believe they deserve.”

Davis said many citizens and law enforcement officers that have been unhappy with the performance and leadership of the sheriff’s office have approached him about running. “After taking much needed time to think this over, and discuss it with my family, I have decided to file in 2014 to run for this office. After being publicly approached by so many people regarding their dissatisfaction with the sheriff’s office I feel compelled to run for the office of sheriff because I can only believe there are just as many if not more who have opted to remain silent.”

Over the years, Davis said, “I’ve gained the respect and support of both the current deputies and the citizens of Halifax County. I’ve led by example in both my professional and private life. On a daily basis you hear about public officials who disrespect and embarrass, not only their office but their supporters as well, by making poor choices in their personal life. Under my command, sheriff’s deputies and ordinary citizens will be held accountable for their actions without favoritism.”

Davis said he has supervised and worked with many of the deputies, and earned their respect for both leadership skills and work ethic, through leading by example and not by fear or intimidation. “I pride myself on being very approachable, as both citizens and deputies understand I’m willing to listen and help them find solutions to issues that they’re facing. I bring with me a superb working relationship with the current police chiefs throughout the county, and those relationships alone will instantly help us start reducing crime.”

Should he be elected, Davis predicts an easy transition for the deputies, without compromising the safety of the citizens, and instantly building morale within the office.

“The citizens of Halifax County should know that like Jeff Frazier when he took office, my filing to run for office of sheriff of Halifax County represents a long-term commitment to seeing the sheriff’s office, as well as the citizens through the issues we are currently facing, and ensuring Halifax County truly is a great place to live.”

Said Davis in the statement, “Electing me sheriff eliminates the need for another appointment process in just a few years and creates stability in leadership.”

A campaign kickoff event is currently being planned and details will be released soon. There, he said, he will release plans on how he will take a proactive approach to reducing crime in Halifax County and return the streets back to the law-abiding citizens.
