A native of Weldon, Mr. Wheeler was born February 28, 1944 to the late Russell Wheeler and Lucy Barnes Edwards Wheeler.
Russell was a simple man, who loved the river and the woods and spent much of his time hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Thomas Edwards, 3 sisters, Louisa Woodruff, Bertha Harris Thompson, and Nannie Edwards.
Mr. Wheeler is survived by his daughter Angie Wheeler Lassiter and husband Ronnie; his son Russell Lee “Rusty” Wheeler and wife Donna; his step-son Butch Barber. His grandchildren Josh and Cameron Lassiter, and Lauren, Brody, and Megan Wheeler; two great-grandchildren, Talon and Chloe Lassiter. His sister Bessie Vick; nephew Dean Vick and wife Frances and family Trey Vick, Heather, Corey and Hadley Cooke; niece Sharon Estep and husband William and family Nicole, Mike, Austin, Kinley, Allyson, Darell, and Natalie. Also surviving are nieces Sandy, Wendy, Trudy, and Sheila and a nephew Joey; and special friend Doris.
A graveside service will be held Friday, September 27, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon after Mr. Wheeler takes his final trip down to the Weldon Boat Landing. Billy Meinsen, Minister will officiate the service. The family will receive friends at 805 Grant Dr. Weldon.
