There were still few details being disclosed this afternoon on the home invasion that left Hines, the apparent assailant, and Chris Emmanuel Harrison, the Zoo Road South resident, dead.
Sheriff Wes Tripp said the case is still under investigation and declined to say whether multiple people were involved.
Both men had previous records.
Hines had a record that stretched back to 2009 and includes robbery and assault as well as cocaine and marijuana charges, state Department of Corrections show.
Records show Hines was released from prison in June after serving a one year and six month term for common law robbery.
Harrison, according to records, had a record that stretched back to 2005. They are drug-related, the most recent being a possession of marijuana charge in which he served an eight-month prison term and was released in November of 2011.
The sheriff's office said earlier today Harrison's murder is believed to be related to a home invasion in which the resident and his assailant were both killed.
It is still not clear whether Harrison, 29, killed Hines, who was wearing a green ski mask, in the apparent home invasion.
Hines, who was located between Harrison's house and an abandoned house, is believed to be Harrison's assailant.
The sheriff's office recovered a handgun within what Tripp called the crime scene but would not elaborate.
The sheriff's office received a call around 11:30 p.m. that a person had been shot at his residence. Harrison was found lying face down inside the residence near the front door.
Harrison, who was first found by his mother and his uncle, had a gunshot wound to the head and left side of his torso.
